A Note From Idah...

I am feeling good to be here because there is No fighting, No insulting, No unfairness, and loving each other. I am happy that I have started going to school and I want to finish school. Once I finish school I want to be a nurse. Am grateful to my house parent she is keeping us well and also buying us clothes.

Idah came to WellSpring from a deeply challenging and painful situation. Within her extended family, she was not truly wanted—kept not out of love, but for the household labor she could provide. Despite being told year after year that she would be enrolled in school, those promises were never fulfilled.

When Idah joined WellSpring at age 13, she had never set foot in a classroom. In 2023, she began Grade 1 for the very first time. Today, she is thriving—eager to learn, joyful in her studies, and finally receiving the care and dignity every child deserves.

Idah was just 13 years old when she came to WellSpring. Now approaching her 16th birthday on May 20th, her journey is a powerful reminder of resilience and hope.

After losing her mother at a young age, Idah was taken in by her aunt, Linda, in Kawama East. Her father remarried and has never visited or provided any support. Life with her aunt was marked by hardship—Linda works tirelessly selling salt and vegetables on the streets, struggling just to pay rent and provide one meal a day. There was simply no money left to cover school fees.

Despite her bright spirit and deep desire to learn, Idah had never been to school. The cost of enrollment, though modest by some standards—just K300 (about $16)—was out of reach.

Her aunt shared, “When I ask our relatives for help, they always turn me away. I want so much for Idah to go to school, but I just can’t manage.”

When Idah was welcomed into WellSpring, it marked the first time in her life that she stepped into a classroom. She started Grade 1 in 2023, and her joy in learning has been evident from day one. With the love, safety, and education she now receives, Idah is catching up—and blossoming into the young woman she was always meant to be.
